The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Carson City Storey County Office is hosting 4-H National Youth Science Day on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2621 Northgate Lane, Suite 15.
Drone Discovery will teach youth a wide variety of topics related to unmanned flight including flight dynamics, aircraft types, safety and regulations, remote sensing and flight control. Designed by Cornell University Cooperative Extension, the hands-on, three part engineering design challenge will allow youth to experiment with fixed and rotary wing designs, explore the concept of remote sensing and dive into the world of coding for real-world drone applications.
Learn what 4-H has to offer at a free Open House & Fun Day from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5 at the same location. There will be cookie decorating, beverages, coloring, a photo booth and prize wheel, as well as a re-cap from the Drone Discovery challenge.
Other 4-H events include an evening of painting for ages 13 and up at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6 at Van Gogh & Vino. Register at http://vangogh-vino.com. In addition, Mayor Bob Crowell will give a proclamation recognizing National 4-H Week at the next Board of Supervisors meeting on Oct. 6.
