Sports Roundup: At least 7 Nevada Wolf Pack football games on TV

RENO – In his first year as head coach, Jay Norvell and the Nevada football team has had seven of its games selected for a national television broadcast so for in the 2017 season.

On Wednesday, the Mountain West Conference announced its national TV package with league partners ESPN and CBS Sports. The 44-game announcement included seven Wolf Pack games, including six MW games.

Nevada will likely have at least nine of its 12 games on national TV as non-conference road games against Northwestern and Washington State are controlled by the Big Ten and Pac-12 conferences, respectively.

With Wednesday’s announcement, Nevada saw one of its games, an October conference game against Air Force, moved from Saturday to a 6:30 p.m. kickoff on Friday, Oct. 20. That game will be broadcast on CBS Sports, one of three games on the network this year for the Pack. Nevada’s games against Hawaii (Oct. 7) and San Diego State (Nov. 18) will also be on CBS Sports and both will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Nevada will play on one of the networks within the ESPN family no fewer than four times this season: Sept. 9 against Toledo, Oct. 14 against Colorado State, Nov. 4 against Boise State and Nov. 11 against San Jose State. Those games will generally have kickoff times determined 12 days before the game.

This is the first television schedule announcement by the MW for the 2017 season. Additional broadcasts by ROOT Sports and the Mountain West Network on Campus Insiders will be announced in the coming weeks.

Carson teams 5th

at Miner Relays

RENO — Carson High’s boys and girls track teams each finished fifth at Tuesday’s Miner Relays at Bishop Manogue High School.

Reno won the boys event by eight points over McQueen while the Lancers won the girls event by 16-plus points.

Dylan Mayo won the triple jump with a mark of 42-5, he finished sixth in the high jump at 5-6 and he ran a leg on the winning 440 shuttle hurdles team along with Cody Main, Adam Maw and Harry Meyer. Greg Wallace won the high jump with a season-best leap of 6-feet. Prabhojt Mand took fourth in the long jump with a PR 20-4 1/2 and Gabe Gabica was fifth in the pole vault at 11-feet. Jared Myrehn was fourth in the high jump at 5-8.

The distance medley team of Zach Sever, Trinity Medina, Ethan Byasse and Hunter Rauh finished fourth at 12:14.80, the 400 relay team of Brandon Basa, Tanner Styes, Chance Smith and Ben Granados were fourth in 45.28 and the 800 relay quartet of Jonny Barahona, Chance Smnith, Basa and Granados were fourth in 1:35.54.

On the girls side, Anya Woodbury won the triple jump at 32-2 and Ku’ulei Haupu was third in the high jump at 4-10 and seventh in the triple jump at 31-3. Dajarrah Navarro was fifth in the high jump at 4-8.

In relay events, Carson was second in the sprint medley relay, clocking a 1:58.49. Erica Basa, Woodbury, Abigail Cowan and Annika Wick were members of the team. The 400 shuttle relay team of Abbey Paulson, Kamille Soderstrom, Audrey Breeding and Ashley Britt was third in 1:20.23. The 800 relay quartet of Cowan, Basa, Logan Bigley and Wick ran a 1:52.64 en route to a fourth-place finish. The Senators also took fourth in the 400 relay, clocking a 52.58.
