Artist’s reception and CollAssemblage

The Churchill Arts Council will present an artists’ reception tomorrow from 5-7 p.m. in the galleries at the Oats Park Art Center.

The reception is in conjunction with the new exhibition, “CollAssemblage,” which is on view in both the E.L. Wiegand and Classroom galleries. The show presents 66 works by 36 artists—from Nevada, California, Arizona, New Mexico and Montana—who use the techniques of collage and assemblage in their works.

Collage and assemblage were one of the most important developments in 20th century art and the exhibition shows how these innovative methods have been utilized by contemporary artists to create new works.

University of Nevada, Reno art historian, Brett Van Hoesen, will give a talk on the history and strategies of of collage at 5:30 in the Wiegand Gallery. The event is free and open to the public. For more information on the reception and talk, your can call Churchill Arts at 775-423-1440.

Coming on April 22 will be the French Pop musical offerings of Ginkgoa.

The quintet is a French-American electro-swing pop band, who craft French songs with an American vibe, American songs with a tongue-in-cheek French touch.

In their performances, time periods cross and inspirations collide—from Pop to old New York Swing with electro-beats thrown in for good measure.

Their live shows have been called a central casting inspired romantic, retro-Manhattan show. From the Montreux Jazz Festival to GloblaFest in NYC, the group has taken audiences on a swinging, swaying voyage across the musical decades.

The band is headed-up by Nicolle Rochelle (an American singer, author and dancer) and Antoine Chatenet (a French composer and producer). The duo is joined onstage by drummer, bassist and a clarinet/keyboard player.

The show here is part of a national/European tour and other dates include Subrosa in New York, the Festival Louisiane in Lafayette, Louisiana as well as dates in Germany, France, the UK and Switzerland.

Coming up in May will be the award-winning one woman play, “The Other Mozart.” This ingenious production was nominated for an Off Broadway Alliance Award for Best Solo Performance and won the Innovative Theater Award in the same category.
