Does the collar make me look fat?

Watson here and I have a confession to make. I was in Laura Mills Park the other day when I ran into my friend Mike. He is one of the park caretakers and my best friend ever. Well, he was petting me when he said, “Watson, you are getting fat.” You can only imagine my embarrassment.

I’m going into training for the 5K Bark in the Park Pup Strut. Yes, Bark in the Park is just a few weeks away, and I can hardly wait. Last year we had rain and I was one wet dog, but it was fun and I got a medal. I also got my photo taken for the calendar, and I’m Mr. September in this year’s CAPS calendar. Did I tell you that before?

Between you and me, I think my mom and dad better step it up, or we won’t be in the first 100 to cross the finish line. I really want a medal, so I’m going to get them moving. Bark in the Park will be held on May 6. We are still looking for vendors, donations and volunteers. Please come out and join us in the community celebration for our home grown no-kill shelter.

Bark in the Park is one of CAPS’ main fund-raisers, and we welcome dogs, kids and parents to come together for the fun. I personally like the dog booths that give cookies, and it’s great to get love and attention from the dog-loving folks.

So, when you see me, I may ask you if my collar makes me look fat. I’m sure I’ll be ready for the Pup Strut. The question is, will you?

LOOKING FOR A HOME

Goose is a one-and-half-year-old male Rhodesian Ridgeback/Lab mix. His family moved and they couldn’t take him. They tried hard to find a home but failed, and fortunately he is at CAPS. Goose is mellow! He loves dogs, cats, kids and all people. Goose would like to take you for a walk. You won’t be disappointed, if you make friends with Goose.

Aluminum cans, which we recycle to augment our shelter funds. We are unable to pick up cans because of trailer problems, but please continue to save them.

The Navy volunteers who come out on the weekends. We appreciate your cleaning, organizing and hanging out with our dogs. You rock!

CAPS will be at Walmart on April 15 with our Kissin’ Booth and an eager smooching pooch. Come by to get your smooch. We will also have caps, long-sleeved T-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts, so please check them out after you have been smooched.

To mark your calendar for Bark in the Park that will be held on Saturday, May 6.

Flower Tree Nursery will be raffling a 20-gallon tree of your choice on June 15, and the winner doesn’t have to be present to win. The raffle tickets are available at Flower Tree, and they are $1 for one ticket and $5 for six tickets.
