At work on the Mint: The foundation of the Mint building, which has been covered for protection from the storms of winter, for several months, was unroofed yesterday morning, and about 20 men set at work not he premises. It is the intention of Col. Curry to employ all the men that can work to advantage.

Carson crocodiles: There are two live crocodiles now at Oliver’s Ranch. They were presented by Bud Bliss to Frank Oliver. Bliss brought them from New Orleans. They are about 10 inches long, perfect crocodiles in miniature, and will be (when full grown) from 10 to 12 feet long. They are the first ‘diles ever brought to Nevada.

Earl Berger of Bakersfield, Calif., and Miss Bertha Cliff of Franktown, Nev., will be married tomorrow afternoon. Rev. L.B. Thomas of this city will officiate and the wedding will take place at the ranch of the parents of the bride near Franktown.

Mormon crickets against which ceaseless war has been waged by ranchers, county, state and federal agencies for many years has succeeded in driving the insect pests away from cultivated areas and back into the foothills.

The Laxalt administration indicated Friday it will propose changes in the sales tax if the new 3 percent levy appears to be hurting older persons or ones with large families. The sales tax is considered a “regressive” tax because it hits hardest at people with medium or low incomes who pay a larger proportion of their income for necessities such as food or drug.

A Las Vegas Paving Co. general superintendent said today he wants to shut down the $12 million U.S. Highway 395 expansion project between Minden and Carson City because of design problems.
