The Nevada Division of Forestry is soliciting proposals for the Forest Legacy Program.

The program, funded by the U.S. Forest Service, offers grants for private landowners who voluntarily work to protect forests from being converted to non-forest uses. It uses not only direct purchases of property but the creation of conservation easements.

The target is forest land that contains scenic, cultural, recreational or water resource assets. Local governments, land trust groups and other nonprofits can also apply for program funding on behalf of interested private landowners.

Nevada can request up to $10 million in program funding for projects.

Eligibility requirements and application instructions are available at http://forestry.nv.gov/grants or by calling 684-2552.
