Carson City Symphony to present ‘Words Into Music’ April 23

The Carson City Symphony will set poetry and other writings to music at its next concert on April 23.

The symphony, directed by David Bugli, will present “Words into Music” at 4 p.m. at the Bob Boldrick Theater inside the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.

The concert will feature violinist Stephanie Sant’Ambrogio performing Earnest Chausson’s Poème for Violin and Orchestra and Hector Berlioz’ Reverie and Caprice. Rita Geil will read poetry related to these pieces.

The world premiere of Steven Rosenhaus’ JFK: A Profile will be conducted by the composer. The work was written in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Kennedy’s birth. Kennedy’s words also will be narrated by Rita Geil.

The Three-cornered Hat by Manuel de Falla will open the concert.

Additionally, members of STRAZZ, Carson City Symphony’s advanced youth string ensemble, will join the orchestra for two pieces.

The Carson City Symphony Chorus, under the direction of Michael Langham, will perform Alleluia by Eric Whitacre, an international choral composer who grew up and studied in western Nevada.

Consort Canzona early music instrumental ensemble will perform in the lobby beginning at 3 p.m. A concert preview in the Sierra Room will begin at 3:15 p.m. It will include discussions with conductors Bugli and Langham, composer/conductor Rosenhaus, soloist Sant’Ambrogio, and narrator Geil about the concert. The pre-concert talk is supported in part by a grant from Nevada Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Tickets are $15 for general admission; $12 for seniors, students, and Symphony Association members; and free for youth ages 18 and under.
