CCSD to discuss special education, AP classes

The Churchill County School District Board of Trustees will meet tomorrow at 6 p.m. in the Old High School auditorium (“The Pit”).

Items for discussion and possible action include the following:

Derild Parsons, director of Special Services, will report on the number of students in the Special Education program.

Upcoming board events: Adult Education Graduation — Thursday, May 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the Old High School auditorium; Churchill County High School Graduation — Friday, May 26, at 7 p.m. in the Ed Arciniega Athletic Complex at the high school.

The board will review advanced placement (AP) class sizes for next school year and discuss a possible waiver of the minimum 15-student class size.

Approval of five-year capital improvement plan presented by Brian Byrd, director of Maintenance.

Potential to expand busing service to 7th- and 8th-grade students presented by Steve Russell, director of Transportation.

Selection of a third-party administrator for the workers’ compensation program and selection of insurance services for medical, vision, dental and life coverage.

Extension of Oasis Online technology services through June 2019.

In closed session, the board will discuss negotiations and strategies regarding the Churchill County Administrators’ Association, Churchill County Education Association, and the Nevada Classified School Employees Association.
