Prep roundup: Nelson dazzles as Carson High baseball wins

Ben Nelson dazzled Tuesday night as the Carson baseball team picked up a much-needed win.

Nelson threw a 1-hitter as Carson won 11-0 in five innings at Damonte Ranch. He struck out seven and walked four.

Abel Carter led the Carson offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBI.

Carter drove in runs on a double in the first, a home run in the fourth, and a groundout in the fifth.

Carson took a 2-0 lead in the first and extended the lead to 7-0 after a five-run second. With the bases loaded, Bryce Moyle was out on a fielder’s choice that scored a run. Landon Truesdale, Jared Barnard, and Kahle Good all singled. Truesdale’s single scored two.

A double by Esteban Lopez in the second inning was the lone hit for the Mustangs.

Truesdale, Jace Keema, Jesse Lopez, and Carter each collected multiple hits for the Senators, who had 13 hits on the day.

Carson, 8-9, in league play entered the day tied for the final playoff spot with Douglas and Reed.

The two teams meet again at 3:45 p.m. Thursday at Carson High School.

BASEBALL

Douglas 12, Wooster 4

MINDEN — A five-run fourth inning rally followed by five more runs in the fifth lifted the Douglas Tigers to a come-from-behind 12-4 victory against Wooster on Tuesday afternoon.

Douglas (8-9 league, 11-11 overall) ended a six-game losing streak and moved into a four-way tie for seventh-place in the Northern 4A standings along with Carson, Reed and Wooster (8-9, 13-12).

The Tigers trailed 4-1 going to the home half of the fourth inning before Ayden Murphy and Isaiah Schat connected for back-to-back RBI doubles to tie the score. Two more runs scored on a two-out error as the Tigers went up 6-4.

Murphy was 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and Jayden Foster went 2-for-4 with one RBI to lead Douglas offensively.

Haden Keller allowed four runs on six hits over five innings to earn credit for the win.
