Liberty Park is part of an ongoing project that the Fallon Lions took over two years ago. The project has been included in the International Centennial projects for Lions International that focuses on the environment.

The next park cleanup is Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be a potluck barbecue for all participants afterward. Volunteers should bring shovels and clean up tools to help. For more information, contact Kristyn Krueger, Fallon Lions secretary at 253-661-1219 or Fallon Lions volunteer coordinator Dean Christensen at 336-504-1382

Jorge Guerrero, Parks and Recreation director, gave the Fallon Lions permission to place a Lions sign at the park for the work the club is doing. Lions Club members and volunteers have cut down dead trees, cleaned out brush, trash and unnecessary weeds. The club is planning in the future to repair the pier and possibly start another fishing derby in the future.

District Governor and Fallon Lions Club member Cal Bushek, who participated in the local events, has the most important post for Lions Club at the state level. He is the District Governor of District 46, which is all of Nevada and a few clubs in Northern California.

The Fallon Lions donated funds to Cub Scout Pack 38 to purchase a new pine derby track.

Each year the scouts host a pine wood derby where parents and scouts create a pinewood race car and have competitions to show off their work.

The Fallon Lions cClub is proud to help sponsor local youth in projects like this. The scouts have helped the Fallon Lions Club with the park cleanup project and have been involved with other events like the annual Labor Day parade.
