The federal agriculture department is accepting applications from tribal governments for Rural Business Development Grants.

In the past, tribes have used the money to establish revolving loan funds supporting micro-loans in their communities and business enterprises. Acting State Director Herb Shedd said one example is the Wells Band that opened a business incubator near the I-80 corridor.

The Fort McDemritt Tribe used RBDG money to open their Travel Plaza in Humboldt County.

Shedd said applications for this latest round of grants are due May 19 at or before 4:30 p.m. at the USDA’s Rural Development Office in Carson City located at 1390 S. Curry St.

More information is available from Michelle Kelly or Laura Chavez at 887-1222, extensions 118 and 117 respectively.
