A free bowl making event for Carson City and Douglas County is happening from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday inside the Carson City Mall.

Everyone is invited to create, paint and glaze bowls to be donated to Empty Bowls, a program whose mission is to fight hunger.

All of the bowls created at the event will be shared between both counties.

No pottery experience is necessary to participate.

The bowls are crafted through a network of local potters and ceramic artists working in their studios and hosting public events.

Guests are invited to make donation, select a handcrafted bowl and enjoy a meal donated by local restaurants.

Participants are asked to keep their bowls as a reminder that there are empty bowls in our community.

Douglas County’s Empty Bowls event, to benefit the Carson Valley Community Food Closet, is planned for October.

Carson City’s event in December will benefit FISH.
