A pilot was transported to a hospital and later released when after his airplane overturned on the runway at Yerington Municipal Airport on Thursday morning.
At about 9 a.m., the Yerington Police Department responded to a single engine airplane that was overturned on the west side of the runway.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the pilot was doing touch and go landings.
The pilot, who was the owner of the plane, was the only one in the aircraft. The pilot was trapped in the cockpit.
Yerington/Mason Valley Fire District staff extricated the pilot with a short time. The pilot of Wellington was transported to South Lyon Medical Center and released later in the day.
The airplane was an experimental aircraft, a 1986 RV-4. The investigation will be handled by the National Transportation Safety Board.
The aircraft is registered to Richard R. Smith of Upper Colony Road in Smith Valley.
