A deputy and a suspect were both injured after an officer involved shooting outside the Carson Nugget tonight.

According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong a deputy responded about 6:10 p.m. to the Carson Nugget for a call about a suspicious subject.

Furlong said the deputy met with Carson Nugget security and approached the subject. When approached the subject allegedly pulled a knife and slashed the deputy in the head. Furlong said a scuffle ensued and during the altercation the deputy pulled his gun and shot the male suspect, according to the Furlong.

The suspect was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno by CareFlight medical helicopter. The deputy was taken to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. Furlong said both the deputy and suspect were alert when transported from the scene. Furlong said he believe both the subject and deputy would survive the altercation.
