Two holiday campaigns at the Nevada Humane Society are aiming to find homes for 1,200 homeless pets and raise $50,000 for their ongoing care between two shelter locations.
Home 4 the Holidays, a nationwide pet adoption drive, was created to move animals out of shelters and into homes during a season of giving and love. Since its inception, more than 12 million pets have gone home. Through Dec. 31, fees will be waived on cats over the age of five and select senior pets.
Another campaign, Lights of Love, features lights representing the memory of lost pets. The lights are illuminated throughout both shelters in Reno and Carson City and the Outlets at Sparks Marina. The lights will be lit through Dec. 31.
To claim a light, fill out a form at either shelter, or call 775-856-2000, ext. 332, to list the pets you wish to honor. The cost for one light is $10, but 10 can be purchased for $50 and 20 for $100.
All proceeds benefit homeless pets. The Carson City location is open from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at 549 Airport Road. The Reno location is at 2825 Longley Lane.
For information, call 775-856-2000, ext. 332.
