Carson City Sheriff’s Office promoting sober New Year’s celebrations

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is promoting a safe New Year’s Eve for community youth.

In conjunction with Partnership Carson City, the School Resource Officers are encouraging junior high or high school students to invite them to their New Year’s Eve get-togethers.

Through this program, the SROs will come to the house or location of the gathering to meet with the kids. Once the SROs make sure the gathering is drug and alcohol free, they will have pizza and/or prizes to present to the kids at the gathering. The gatherings have to have at least three or more kids.

Any student who’s at any type of youth gathering on New Year’s Eve can call the non-emergency line for dispatch 775-887-2008 and request your SRO stop by or you can email SRO Adams for a reserved time. If you call dispatch just tell them you want an “SRO check” and they will know what to do.

The SROs will begin at 8 p.m. and dispatch will take calls until midnight.

“We are excited to visit the teens this New Year’s Eve,” said SRO Deputy Jarrod Adams. “This is our second year doing this program and last year was a big success.”

“The Safe and Sober New Year’s is designed to promote and encourage a drug and alcohol free gathering for youth. It also attempts to keep the youth in a safe environment for New Year’s Eve. So invite your SRO to your New Year’s Eve party and get a free pizza.”

The SROs will also be responding to reports of juvenile problems and appropriate enforcement will be taken.

All pizzas will be paid for by Partnership Carson City.
