John William Vaughan Jr. was born in Hollywood, CA, August 10, 1940 to Simon William Horn aka John William Vaughan Sr. and Elizabeth Marie Kaspar. He was struck by a vehicle crossing the road in San Antonio, TX and passed away from his injuries on November 17, 2017.
John, Johnny or Jack resided most of his adult life in Northern Nevada. He helped his father build the Mill House Inn in Carson City in the 1970’s. He was a notable character up on the Comstock contributing his carpentry and masonry skills to many projects in the area.
He lived in Tarzana, Waikiki, Woodstock, San Francisco, New York, New Orleans, Wells, and the Carson City area. He was an explorer, a poet, and literary enthusiast. He was passionate about aviation, motorcycles, Jeopardy, and his Border
Collie Rebel. An avid fisherman and hunter, he loved sleeping under Orion’s Belt. His legendary story telling and larger than life personality will be missed by friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his father John Vaughan Sr.; mother Elizabeth Vaughan; sister Jacqueline Vaughan; and brother Gary Vaughan.
He is survived by his daughter Amelia Lee Vaughan Handschuh; his sisters Mary Gump, Pat Johnson; and brother Steve Vaughan.
