The need for foster homes in Lyon and Storey counties will be discussed when Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties meets on Feb. 9.
The event, at 9 a.m. at the Silver Springs Community Center, will welcome Lori Nichols of foster care recruitment and Sally Hazard from the Fernley office for the Advanced Foster Care program.
Mason Schubert, mental health counselor, will talk about the Rural Mobile Crisis Response Team and services it provides to rural regions. The statewide program is for children and their families who are experiencing behavioral health crises.
Healthy Communities’ monthly public breakfast meetings attract community volunteers and representatives from education, health care, social services, food systems, housing, substance abuse prevention and treatment, and employment groups.
Next month the featured speaker will be pediatric thanatologist Emilio Parga, founder and executive director of Solace Tree. Parga’s presentation will be about creating “grief-friendly” schools that are supportive of children and teens who are dealing with loss.
