Score a hole in one as you cheer for touchdowns
Two golf clubs in the area are stacking up deals for Sunday, including food, golf lessons and contests.
Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties is sponsoring a chili cookoff at the Dayton Valley Golf Club. The event benefits the Dayton Food Pantry, which provides emergency food distribution as well as monthly food boxes for seniors and weekly food for students.
Along with a chili cookoff, there will be raffles and silent auctions, which include hotel stays, dinners, breakfasts, golf lessons, oil changes, gym passes and Aces tickets.
The event begins at noon with judging to follow at 1 p.m. The cost to sample is $5; chili bowls will be sold for $3 each.
Or, check out the happenings at Empire Golf Course. The Superbowl Party and Golf Shotgun Special includes 18 holes with cart and a bucket of range balls. There’s also quarterly, halftime, and final prize drawing board and a yearly season pass will be awarded.
On the day’s menu, there’s barbecue ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, soup, salad, and desert.
The festivities begin at 10 a.m. and it’s $35 per player for the day’s package or $13 for the Superbowl party only.

- Bully’s at 3530 North Carson Street has a one-day special Superbowl Platter. Platters contain Club sandwiches with chicken wing buckets, steak sticks, mini hot dogs, deep fried pickles and more for $54. To-go platters are also available to take home; just call-in to make an order for pickup. Reservations also are available but must be made 30 minutes prior to kickoff.
- Wing Stop at 3965 South Carson Street has a similar platter or families; food plate combos with a variety of sizes ranging $75 -$100.
- The Salvation Army for Douglas & Carson City are hosting a Super Bowl party with food, open to the public in their building located at 661 Colorado Street. RSVP at facebook.com/events/588182488039720/
- Max Casino at 900 Carson Street is providing complimentary scratch cards to reward members and random hot seat drawing to the public. The cash tunnel contains $5,000. Food includes hot dogs and hot wings.
- Casino Fandango at 3800 South Carson Street is showing the Superbowl in its cabaret bar with hot seat drawings, eligible for winning prizes.
- At Firkin’ & Fox 310 South Carson Street, you could win a ukulele through raffle. Along with that, there’s shirts, drinks packages and signs. $20 wings and $1.50 hot dogs.
- Buffalo Wild Wings on 3815 South Carson Street is giving away team apparel when a raffle ticket is purchased.
- At all three Carson Valley Inn properties, there are food and drink speecials, plus cash and hot seat drawings up to $1,000.
Get a free morning workout before gorging on snacks
Kaia Fit at Carson City and Minden locations are offering a free Super Bowl Community workout. Childcare will be available for children under 6 years of age. Kids older than 6 may participate in the workout. A $5 suggested donation for non-members will be donated to the Tumbleweeds Gymnastics Team.
