Struck it rich: It was reported in town yesterday that Ed Hummel, who has been operating a sense at Silver, has struck it rich. The story is to the effect that while driving a crosscut he encountered a ledge five feet in thickness that sampled $60 in gold and silver clear across.

The county courthouse janitor’s salary received a $25 boost today as commissioners agreed to raise Paul Pieretti’s wages from $140 a month to $165.

Nevada Selective Service Director said Friday the physical and moral standards set by the defense department to determine draft eligibility are too high. Col. Addison Millard told the Reno area Federal Executive Council a moral rejection might be based on a minor law violation.

A convicted murderer who fought attempts to stave off his execution by lethal injection was found dead in his cell of an apparent suicide, Nevada State Prison officials announced today. The body of Dennis L. Hogue, 26, was found sitting on the floor of his single cell during a routine check. He had used a nylon cord from a laundry bag which he tied around a window know and his neck.
