‘The Lovemaster’ Craig Shoemaker kicking off comedy series in Carson City

Satire, impersonation and plenty of laughs are in store at the Brewery Arts Center as it rolls out a new comedy series.

Kicking off the lineup on Feb. 17 is a nationally acclaimed comedian known for his character “The Lovemaster,” who inspired the 1997 film of the same name.

Craig Shoemaker’s career includes a stint on Broadway and roles on “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Scream 2,” “Spin City,” “Parks and Recreation,” and others.

He starred in “Totally Baked,” which he also wrote and produced, as well as the follow-up Hulu hit, “420 Comedy Hour.”

An award winning producer and bestselling author, he also has performed solo television specials and hosted and produced reality television.

His first Comedy Central show was voted one of the Top 20 specials of all time. His second, “Unzipped,” aired to acclaim and the CD made the Billboard Top 20 for six weeks.

In 2015, Shoemaker produced and starred in the No. 1 comedy album on iTunes, “The Last Stand (Up).” Additionally, two of his stand-up bits made it to the all-time Top 10 list on XM Radio. His latest 90-minute stand-up special, “Daditude,” aired on Showtime.

Currently the comedian is a producer and writer for “From the Crib” and “Laughter Heals!”

Shoemaker’s comedy style has earned him numerous awards, including “Best Male Standup” at the American Comedy Awards on ABC. His work as actor/producer for PRISM, earned him two NATAS Emmy Awards.

Now “Dr. Shoe” even has a doctorate from California University of Pennsylvania, and his best selling book, “LoveMaster’d,” aims to help people worldwide manage and transform through personal struggles.

Sponsored by Reno Tahoe Comedy, the Carson City performance is geared for adults. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will follow an hour later.

Tickets for $15 in advance are at Breweryarts.org or the BAC’s Artisan Store, 411 W. King St. The price goes up to $20 on the day of the show.
