If you want to support the Brewery Arts Center, then Winter Wine and All That Jazz & Spirits is the place to be.
The Feb. 25 event is the BAC’s main fundraiser and offers an evening of varied performances, art on display, a silent auction, and tasting of more than 20 types of wine and spirits from area wineries and distilleries.
“We roll out the red carpet, literally, and have paparazzi taking pictures,” said Gina Lopez Hill, BAC executive director.
The theme of this year’s event is Fire and Ice, chosen by staff and volunteers meeting the day after last year’s event, said Hill.
Controlled Burn, the Reno-based fire arts troupe often seen at Burning Man and in the Nevada Day parade, will be outside performing.
A large wooden sculpture made by Matthew Welter of Carson City’s Timeless Sculptures will be on display.
Inside the Performance Hall, Reno’s Dysrhythmia Contemporary Dance Company will stage three, 15-minute performances to accommodate the crowd.
“We have more people than can fit in,” the theater, said Hill.
When Dysrhythmia takes a break, Virginia City singer and songwriter Athena McIntyre will perform in the lobby where Simple Fare catering will be serving hors d’oeuvres and adult root beer floats will be on tap.
The silent auction will feature about 25 items, including a Silver Oak golf package for four, two VIP tickets to see the band Train at Harveys Lake Tahoe, and a getaway weekend at Reno’s Peppermill Resort Spa Casino.
Brazilian music group SambaDá will be perform two sets inside the Black Box Theater, where all the chairs will be removed to turn the space into a big dance floor.
“Everyone ends up dancing at the end,” said Hill.
And there will be a few surprises.
“In the past, we’ve had magicians walking around, celebrity lookalikes, celebrity waiters,” said Hill. “I won’t say what we’re doing this year, but there will be surprises along the way.”
The event is sponsored by Carson Tahoe Health, Gold Dust West and Brad Bonkowski and Andie Wilson.
Western Nevada Supply donates bottled water.
Tickets are $45 for BAC members and $50 general admission and are available online at breweryarts.org or in the BAC office before the event or at the event.
