A free cooking demonstration on Feb. 20 will cover how to prepare chocolate beet cake with avocado frosting, focaccia, avocado egg salad and Mediterranean salmon salad.
The event, with chef Cynthia Kroon, will begin at 5:30 and participants will sit down to eat at around 6:15 p.m. at the Dayton Valley Community Center, 170 Pike St., Dayton.
On the third Monday of the month, Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties hosts a free cooking demonstration and dinner featuring healthy menu possibilities that incorporate varying foods distributed through USDA commodities each month.
Kroon has a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Science and more than 40 years experience in the culinary industry.
