AFTERNOON...
* Timing: Gusty winds will continue today, with the strongest
winds expected this morning across the Reno-Carson City
vicinity, and this afternoon for west central Nevada. Some
locations may see periods of lighter winds followed by sudden
increases in wind speed, especially near bands of rain and snow
showers.
* Winds: Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.
Local gusts up to 65 mph in wind prone areas.
* Wave Heights on Pyramid Lake: 1 to 3 feet. Small boats,
kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and
should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.
* Impacts: Prepare for sudden increases in wind gusts, with
hazardous travel conditions for high profile vehicles along
Interstates 80 and 580, and Highways 50 and 95. A few power
outages are also possible. Strong turbulence and wind shear
could impact aviation travel.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture and trash
cans. The best thing to do is prepare ahead of time by making
sure you have extra food and water on hand, flashlights with
spare batteries and/or candles in the event of a power outage.
