The Nevada Department of Transportation and partners have reopened the Bafford Lane (State Route 726) bridge in Fallon following coordinated flood mitigation efforts.
Since April 19, Bafford Lane has been closed at the Carson River after NDOT and local agencies cut sections of the road and riverbed embankment to allow increased river flow as part of coordinated local flood mitigation measures. Enhancing Carson River water flow at the Bafford Lane bridge helped reduce potential flooding of residential properties in Fallon as water was being channeled out of Lahontan Reservoir to natural land basins and waterways near Fallon.
The Churchill County Road Department, Truckee-Carson Irrigation District and NDOT worked collaboratively to refill and repave the cut section of road.
Earlier this spring, NDOT also installed additional drainage culverts underneath U.S. 95 and U.S. 50 near Fallon to help channel floodwaters underneath the highways. The improvements will also help reinforce the highways against potential flooding in future years.
