Removal of Post Office: Postmaster Small has removed the Carson Post Office from its old stand adjoining Wells, Fargo & Co. to an apartment in the County Building between the Sheriff’s Office and the Magnolia Saloon. The new stand is quite central and suits “uptown” folks.

Letter to the editor: The Orphans Home Industrial School is closed indefinitely. The reason for closing the boys’ workshop is because the Legislature failed to appropriate a special fund for its maintenance. Is there is a possibility of arranging matters so that manual training can be given to these poor children without expense to the state? Signed, Orphan’s Friend.

Rainstorm: A real “rainstorm” hit Virginia City. The Pioneer laundry was wrecked; every bridge in Six Mile Canyon is out; huge boulders rolled down the streets in a flood of water; the Wells Fargo building was struck by lightning and a wall of water three feet deep swept down the mountain through the city.

Virginia and Truckee auto car: The new auto-railroad car commemorates the date of its first trip for the Virginia and Truckee. It has been numbered 23 and laden with 23 guests and Ed Peterson, driver.

Photo caption: Who says money doesn’t grow — Maybe not on trees, but Norman Smith found an aged Chinese coin growing around the roots of a beet in his small garden. He has already found a coin and a marble from China’s last imperial dynasty, Ching (1644-1912). He supposes there may have been a Chinese work camp in the area for the V&T Railroad.

Slice of Tahoe: About 3.5 miles of the lake shore fall within Carson City’s boundary. About 6,200 acres of the Lake Tahoe Basin fall within Carson City’s borders and contains several popular beaches — Chimney, Whale, Secret Cove and Hidden Beach.
