Bighorns holding basketball clinic

RENO — The Reno Bighorns will host a basketball clinic at Caughlin Athletic Club Aug. 3-4 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

The clinic will give players ages 6 to 14 the opportunity to become directly involved with the Bighorns organization. Registration is $85.

Bighorns head coach and 13-year NBA veteran Darrick Martin will lead the clinic, along with Bighorns assistant coaches.

Each participant will receive a Bighorns T-shirt, Bighorns swag, two tickets to a 2017-18 contest and a certificate of participation. Lunch will be provided each day of the clinic.

The clinic is limited to 100 youth. Each clinic member should bring their own water bottle, snacks, and wear basketball attire.

Ponte is low gross

winner at E. Valley

Robin Ponte scored 13.5 net to win the Twilight Eaglets’ League event played on the East course. The format was odd holes.

Suzie Reiserer won low net with an 11 and Fran Beall was next with 13. Mary Kay Kaluza and Suzie Serrano tied for third at 13.5.

• On July 19, Kathy Streeter won low gross at the President’s Cup with an 80 and Karen Bowman won low net with a 68.

Darcy Johnson won Flight 1 with a 14 in the Stableford scoring system, Suzie Zimmerli was second with 8 and Annette Ramirez had 7.

In Flight 2, Pat Gilbert won with 12 points followed by Vicki DeVore with 4 and Beall with 3; 2nd place went to Vicki DeVore scoring a 4 and in 3rd place was Fran Beall with 3 points. Pattie Boerio won Flight 3 with 10 points, Mary Bennett was next with 9 and Jean Barnett was third with 8.

Two teams tie for

top spot at C. Valley

Bob Pemberton & Dennis Patterson, and Mike Davis and Marc Menezes tied for the top spot in Flight A with a net 44 at the recent Carson Valley Men’s Club.

The format was a 2-man Stableford.

Charles Poe and Chris Willing were third with a 42.

In Flight B, Jack Zippwald and Neil Bain won with a 48, 10 points clear of the teams of Fred Coons and Richard Torok, and Bill Alen and Brick Ludington.

Olesek foursome

wins Empire event

Fred Olesek, Adam Huber, Steve Scharfe and George Flamer shot a net 94 to win the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club event on July 19.

The format was Irish 4-ball with Stableford scoring.

Nick Paul, John Masiello, Jim Green and John Lewis were second with a 93.

In Flight B, Al Giannotti, Donnie Curd, Greg Bentley and Skip Yokota shot a 101 to grab a two-point win over Nils Sharpe, Tom Welton, Steve Isaacson and Martin Johnson.

Spencer wins event

at Silver Oak

Charles Spencer shot a net 65 to win Flight 1 at the Carson City Sunday Men’s Club event on July 16.

Jim Silsby was second with a 66, and Kevin Silsby and Paul Jorgensen tied for third with 67s.

Griffin Lusty won Flight 2 with a net score of 62, three strokes better than Jordan Payette and five ahead of Jeff Cloutier and Mike Gaynor.

• Eric Sorenson shot a net 59 to win Flight 1 honors at the July Monthly Masters event at Silver Oak. Jim Higgins, Kevin Johnson and Michael Parapid were nine shots back at 68. Evan Shane won Flight 2 with a 67, three shots better than J.P. Penrod and four ahead of Eric Moorman, Lusty and William Kapczynski.

Three tie for top

spot at Carson Valley

Roger Hala, Marc Prause and Charles Poe recorded 67s to tie for first in Flight A at the recent Carson Valley Men’s Club event.

Bill Allan won Flight B with a 64, one shot better than Augie Martinez, and Matthew Budjako won Flight C with a 65, three shots ahead of Neil Ban. Bob Van Nort took fourth with a 68, a shot ahead of Jim Tavernier.

Baseball prospect camp

set at Nevada

RENO – The University of Nevada baseball team will host a prospect camp on Aug. 26-27 at Peccole Park.

Cost for the two-day camp is $350 for position, two-way players and $275 for pitchers only.

The camp is for all high school athletes and provides an opportunity to showcase their skills while receiving instruction from the coaching staff. The day begins with registration and introduction to the Wolf Pack coaching staff followed by a question and answer session.

After the morning meet and greet, players will begin a workout session. Prospects will be led by the coaching staff and players in the same warmup routine used by the current Wolf Pack team. After the warmup they will receive instruction from the coaching staff during a workout session. Instruction will include techniques of hitting, pitching, catching, infield and outfield. Players will be able to participate in games each day to incorporate the techniques they have learned and to showcase their baseball skills.
