Calhoun’s single leads Oklahoma City to 8-7 win over Reno

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Willie Calhoun hit a run-scoring single in the eighth inning, leading the Oklahoma City Dodgers to an 8-7 win over the Reno Aces on Wednesday.

Drew Maggi scored on the play after he reached base with a double.

Joe Broussard (4-1) got the win with two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Jared Miller (2-2) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game.

For the Aces, Socrates Brito doubled and singled, driving in a run and also scoring one.

The teams continue their series today at 5:05 p.m.

Pack assistant accepts NBA job

RENO — University of Nevada men’s basketball assistant coach Ronald Dupree has accepted a position in the National Basketball Association. The team Dupree will be working for and his position within that organization will be announced at a later date.

After an outstanding career at LSU, Dupree played six seasons in the NBA for Chicago, Detroit, Minnesota, Seattle and Toronto. He also played three seasons in the NBA Developmental League. Internationally he played professionally in Germany, Argentina, Italy, and Israel.

“We wish Ronald, Jamila, Parker, and Sydney nothing but the best in their next chapter in the NBA,” Wolf Pack head coach Eric Musselman said. “They will be missed by the entire program, but Nevada basketball thanks you for all that you’ve done to continue to make this a winning program.”

“Coach Dupree moving on to the NBA is an unbelievable opportunity for him and for our basketball program,” Director of Athletics Doug Knuth said. “He has come to Nevada, worked extremely hard with Coach Musselman and helped the Wolf Pack program reach the top of the Mountain West. He has been able to move on because of the success the program has had and we wish him nothing but the best. We are going to find another great young coach who will work his tail off to replace him.”

In his season with the Wolf Pack Dupree helped Nevada to a 28-7 record, Mountain West regular season and tournament titles and a NCAA Tournament appearance for the first time in a decade. Four members of the Pack, Marcus Marshall, Jordan Caroline, D.J. Fenner and Cameron Oliver earned numerous postseason honors. Caroline was named the MW Tournament MVP.

Dupree joins a long list of staff members who have worked under Musselman who have moved onto the NBA. He joins former Musselman assistant coaches who are currently coaching in the NBA, Scott Brooks (head coach of the Washington Wizards), David Fizdale (current head coach of Memphis Grizzlies), Brandon O’Connor (Los Angeles Clippers), Keith Smart (Memphis Grizzlies), Duane Ticknor (Sacramento Kings), Larry Lewis (Sacramento Kings), Mark Hughes (New York Knicks), Clay Moser (Los Angeles Lakers), Phil Handy (Cleveland Cavaliers), and Sammy Gelfand (Golden State Warriors).
