A new Hebrew reading crash course is being offered in South Lake Tahoe.
The flashcard based language course developed by the Jewish Learning Institute aims at teaching users to read Hebrew in five weeks.
Rabbi Mordey Richler of Chabad at Lake Tahoe will conduct the five sessions of the new course, Read it in Hebrew, starting from 7 to 8 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Ski Run Marina.
The first two lessons of the program focus on the letters of the Hebrew alphabet while the last three introduce vowels and teach students how to read words. The flashcards portray the letters alongside mnemonics intended at making the information memorable and easy to digest. In addition to reading skills, students get a glimpse into the holiness and depth of the Hebrew language, including brief kabalistic explanations of the Hebrew letters.
The program is geared for people at all levels of Jewish knowledge, including those without any prior experience or background in Jewish learning.
The course is open to the public, and attendees need not be affiliated with a particular synagogue, temple, or other house of worship.
