School may be out for kids in Nevada, but the need for healthy meals never ends. Nearly 266,000 students in Nevada are eligible for free and reduced lunch, making up more than 55 percent of the student population.
Kids are offered free and nutritious meals through the United States Department of Agriculture Summer Food Service program.
Sites throughout the state offer daily meals for free with no enrollment. To find a site, go to freesummerfood.org, or text “FOOD” to 877-877, or call 1-866-348-6479.
For information, go to https://www.fns.usda.gov/sfsp/summer-food-service-program.
Also, Food For Thought offers free meals to students from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 18 at two Carson City locations — Terrance Park, 1327 La Loma Drive, and The Bridge Church, 901 N. Stewart St. For information, go to NVFoodForThought.org, or call 775-885-7770.
