The Arts Center’s fifth annual golf tournament was a resounding success, and declared the best they’ve ever done.
This year’s winning team consisted of Marty Davis, Dave Nickle, George Shaw and Jim Wilhelm. The team was awarded a trophy, which will live at the golf course and bear their names until next year’s tournament.
A plaque was also presented to the man and woman who hit the ball closest to the hole as well as those who hit the longest drive. The longest drives were hit by Matt Vanderbeek and Brenda Mahan; Marty Davis and Page Carney hit their balls closest to the hole.
Patricia Sammons, of The Arts Center, said it was a spectacular day. She said they doubled their team count from last year, topping at 14 teams. She added there was a good cross-section of the community represented, with The Arts Center’s usual volunteers and patrons as well as other members of the community.
“Every year we’ve done better and this year was spectacular,” Sammons said. “These fundraisers are important because it helps us serve the community as far as the arts.”
She added it’s great to see the community come together to support the arts. She said it’s wonderful how much Churchill County residents help each other with fundraising and how much effort goes into helping keep the arts alive.
“We’re thrilled to have the tournament and we look forward to next year,” Sammons said.
The Arts Center is now located at the newly opened William N. Pennington New Life Center.
