A fatal three-vehicle crash west of Soda Lake Road closed down a stretch of the Reno Highway Wednesday night.
One person was killed and Care Flight transported another person to Renown Regional Medical Center from the scene. Paramedics from Banner Churchill Community Hospital and Med 51 and Med 53 from Naval Air Station Fallon transported five people to the local medical facility. Care Flight then flew another victim to Renown from Banner Churchill. The NHP does not know the status of their conditions. The Churchill County Sheriff’s Office, which acts as the coroner, is notifying next of kin before the NHP releases the name of the deceased.
Detours were set up by the Nevada Department of Transportation at McLean Road and Sheckler Cut Off.
According to an NHP trooper, the cause of the crash will be released in a formal statement.
Trooper Dan Gordon, spokesman for the NHP, said the agency should have preliminary information either today or Friday. He said the NHP is “trying to piece together exactly how it (the crash) occurred.”
After the investigation is completed, Gordon said the report is also forwarded to the Churchill County District Attorney’s office for review.
The CCSO responded first followed by the NHP. Fallon Churchill Volunteer Fire Department and the Federal Fire Department (Truck 51) from NAS Fallon were called out to the crash, the NHP reports.
