The Nevada Highway Patrol released the name today of a Sparks woman who was killed Wednesday in a three-vehicle crash west of Soda Lake Road on the Reno Highway.

She was identified as 25-year-old Krysten Waalk, a case worker for both SP and Atlas counseling centers.

Care Flight transported another person to Renown Regional Medical Center from the scene. Paramedics from Banner Churchill Community Hospital and Med 51 and Med 53 from Naval Air Station Fallon transported four people to the local medical facility. Care Flight then flew the driver of a Toyota Sequoia to Renown from Banner Churchill. Their names have not been released, and their conditions are unknown.

The NHP preliminary investigation indicates that a gray 2011 Toyota Camry exited the Gas Store West from the north side of the roadway and failed to yield to Waalk’s silver 2014 Hyundai Sonata traveling west on U.S. Highway 50. The NHP said the front of the Camry hit the right side of the Sonata and after being hit by the Camry, the driver of the Sonata was unable to control her vehicle. According to the NHP report, this caused the Sonata to travel into eastbound traffic where the left side of the Sonata was struck by a white 2008 Toyota Sequoia.

The CCSO responded first followed by the NHP. Fallon Churchill Volunteer Fire Department and the Federal Fire Department (Truck 51) from NAS Fallon were called out to the crash, the NHP reports.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Doug Hildebrand of the Multi-disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T.) is investigating this crash. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have any information related to this crash is encouraged to contact Trooper Hildebrand at 775-689-4623 or dhildebrand@dps.state.nv.us regarding NHP case #170300062.
