The Carson High baseball team opened its 2017 campaign with an 8-2 win Thursday night over Fallon at Ron McNutt Field.
Carson got 5.1 solid innings on the mound from Jared Barnard. He struck out seven while giving up 7 hits and two earned runs. He didn’t allow a walk. Cole McDannald pitched the final 1.2 innings shutting down the Greenware offense.
Carson went up 8-1 during the third and fourth innings.
Barnard helped his cause at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
Abel Carter doubled and tripled, driving in two for the Senators. The top of the lineup was active on the base paths for the Senators as leadoff hitter Landon Truesdale had two hits and two runs. Two-hole hitter, Jesse Lopez, also had two hits and two runs. Carter, hitting third, also scored twice. Jace Keema, the cleanup hitter, scored once while walking twice. Colby Zemp picked up the Senators’ other hit and RBI.
The Senators also played a clean game defensively.
The Senators continue play in the Mike Bearman Tournament today hosting Douglas at 2 p.m. and Central Catholic at 5.
On Saturday, CHS plays at Damonte Ranch and against Enterprise at Wooster.
SOFTBALL
Carson 5, Fallon 4
ELK GROVE, Calif. — Carson pushed across a run in the fifth, snapping a 4-all tie and grabbing a season-opening win over Fallon at Bartholomew Park in the first round of the Del Campo Tournament.
Kailee Luschar and Lauren Lemburg led the offense with two hits apiece. Lemburg drove in a run and Camryn Quilling drove in two.
Jailene Salciedo went the distance and didn’t allow an earned run as the Senators made seven errors. Salciedo struck out five and didn’t walk a batter.
She allowed five hits.
Camryn Quilling had a big triple to drive in Kassidy Cooley and Bella Kordonowy in a three-run third inning.
JV Baseball: Fallon 6, Carson 2
Carson dropped a 6-2 decision Thursday afternoon to Fallon.
Carson managed just two hits, one by Max Fontaine and one by Delsin Roberts who drove in both runs for Carson.
Garritt Benavidez took the loss giving up six runs, two earned, in four innings of work.
The Senators committed five errors in the game.
Fontaine pitched a solid final three innings giving up only a single walk.
