The Carson City Sheriff’s Office was closed for several hours Tuesday afternoon following a bomb scare.
Around 4 p.m. a man entered the Sheriff’s Office to turn in a grenade he had found and didn’t know what to do with it. The building was evacuated. Employees within the building were given the rest of the day off.
The Douglas County Bomb Squad was called in to investigate the device. The bomb squad x-rayed and used a robot to retrieve the grenade, which was determined to be disabled.
The man doesn’t face any trouble and Sheriff Ken Furlong said they see incidents like this at least once a year.
Officers closed Musser Street around the Sheriff’s Office until 6:30 p.m. No homes were evacuated and no injuries reported.
Officials recommend if you have device or substance you’re unsure of, don’t transport it to a law enforcement agency. Call 911 and officers will handle the situation.
