A new apartment complex is under development in north Carson City.

Plans for The Villas at Silver Oak have been submitted to the Carson City Planning Division for major product review, which is a review conducted by the city’s departments before the developer submits the project for permitting.

The complex is planned on 6.2 acres behind the Glen Eagle’s Restaurant & Lounge and accessible from G.S Richards and Silver Oak boulevards.

The design consists of six three-story and one two-story apartment buildings for a total of 114 two-bedroom and 36 one-bedroom apartments.

It also includes a 4,000 square-foot clubhouse, indoor fitness center, outdoor pool, fire-pit patio and dog park.

According to the application, typical unit amenities will include 9-foot ceilings, ceiling fans, carpeted bedrooms, wood grain vinyl flooring, walk-in closets, full-size washers and dryers, and granite countertops, breakfast bar and black steel appliances in the kitchens.

The description says the exterior design will be in keeping with Carson City’s “western and railroad heritage,” and will use vertical board and batten, horizontal shiplap, corrugated metal and brick veneer sidings, metal-railed private patios and balconies, and composition shake-style shingles.

The applicant is Ken Rose, the project’s architect. The property owner listed is Kassebaum & Pereira.

The property is currently zoned for retail commercial use so the project will need a special use permit from the Planning Commission to build residential units there.

The project summary mentions its close proximity to Interstate 580. Another apartment project in south Carson City off Clearview Drive and Curry Street reportedly expects to appeal to commuters who work in Reno because travel to south Reno, in particular, is quicker from Carson City than from parts of Reno or Sparks.

Mills Landing, the 105 single-family townhouses on State Street that broke ground Wednesday, says it’s just 20 minutes from Reno on its display board at the site.
