A toe-tapping Broadway fairy tale starring local youth will run for three performances in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center.
Youth Theatre Carson City’s production of George M. Cohan’s “Give My Regards to Broadway” will play Friday and Saturday.
The production sets a story amid the famous show tunes of George M. Cohan, including “Give My Regards to Broadway,” “Yankee Doodle Dandy” and “When Johnny Comes Marching Home.”
The story follows Dick Foster, played by Xander Borg, 15, who financially struggles to open a Broadway show, and his leading lady, played by 14-year-old Olivia Martin.
Enter Mary Collins (Kaitlyn McDonald, 16), an aspiring actress from New Rochelle, plus “Legs” Ruby (Cameron Miller, 16), a Damon Runyon-type bookie who’s on the run from the mob.
Just as all appears lost, a financial “angel” appears with the money to do the show and Mary gets her big chance at stardom.
Youth Theatre Carson City’s mission is to provide a safe and inclusive theater environment for youth in grades K-12.
“Give My Regards to Broadway” is presented by the Showstoppers, a group of performers hand-picked from the youth theater.
Made up of 19 local singers, dancers and actors ages 8-18, the Showstoppers tour the area bringing their love of the arts to their community and travel across the region performing at places like Disneyland and Six Flags.
The show will play at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday.
The final performance will be a celebration of the accomplishments of the nearly 500 students and families reached this season at Youth Theatre Carson City. An awards ceremony, slide show, and raffle will follow the performance to salute the young performers.
Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors. For tickets and information, go to www.youththeatrecarsoncity.com.
