The April Fool’s weekend has plenty of events for everyone, and we’re not kidding.
Car show
Rattlesnake Raceway’s annual car show from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Stockman’s is open to all vehicles: Race cars, show cars, mud trucks, karts and motorcycles; if it has a motor (or should have one) it can come … push, pull or drag. Don’t bring anything that will excessively leak or damage the pavement. Bring out your toys.
The event is free.
Live music also features Larry Tabert, Bob Shank and Wade Lumsden, “The High Idlers.”
Auto racing
The opening weekend of auto racing takes place at both Rattlesnake and Top Gun raceways.
Rattlesnake’s first race of the season on Saturday features all classes of race cars. Pits open at noon, gates at 4 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.
Two more races are set for the month on April 15 and 29. Rattlesnake Raceway is located four miles northeast of Fallon off Indian Lakes Road and north of the cemetery.
Top Gun opens with a Test-N-Tune on Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and the first Summit Series ET and Junior Dragsters begin racing at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Gates open at 7 a.m. Time runs are at 9:30 a.m. with eliminations following qualifying rounds.
Top Gun is located 15 miles south of Fallon and off U.S. Highway 95.
High-school rodeo
The first area high-school rodeo is Friday and Saturday at Fernley.
After two late winter rodeos in Southern Nevada at Boulder City and Moapa Valley, the Nevada high-school season takes aim on six Northern Nevada stops capped by the state finals in Winnemucca at the end of May.
The Fernley rodeo begins Friday at 9 a.m. and runs through Saturday, which starts at 8 a.m. The Fallon High School Rodeo Team hosts the second spring rodeo next weekend at the Churchill County Fairgrounds.
Relay for Life
Relay For Life of Fallon is hosting a fundraising sale Saturday at the Eagles Hall. 7977 Reno Highway from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with Indian tacos, crafts, bath, body, and beauty products, bake sale items, and more.
Last-minute vendors may call 775-426-8830.
“We are so excited that our fundraising sale is finally here,” Sarah Batchelor said. “The excitement comes from knowing that the money we raise will help in funding research and supplies that have already benefited or will benefit us all at some point.
“We have obtained some great raffle prizes from businesses in our community and the vendors in attendance. We are thankful that they have been so generous and hope that as the community participates they will see the value as well.
Batchelor said this a family-friendly event because cancer does not take into account one’s age.
“We wanted to reflect that in a positive way,” she said. “Families can come and have lunch, popcorn, sweet treats and play games, all while browsing the variety of vendors selling various wares.”
