Prep Roundup: Carson High softball drops 3 at Reed tourney

SPARKS — It was a rough day on dirt for the Carson High softball team.

The Senators played well in spurts, but still went 0-3 in pool play Friday at the Reed Easter tournament at Shadow Mountain Softball Complex.

Carson started with an 8-3 loss to Newark-Memorial and followed that up with a 7-3 loss to Reed. The Senators concluded their day with a 4-1 loss to Lassen.

The Senators fell into an early three-run hole against Newark-Memorial thanks to four errors, and they never recovered. Terryn Earle and Jailene Salciedo both homered accounting for all of Carson’s runs.

Against Reed, Carson fell behind 5-0 after two innings thanks to two errors, a walk, a hit batter and a single. Carson scored once in the fourth on a RBI double by Salciedo and twice in the top of the fifth thanks to two errors, a sacrifice bunt by Earle and a two-run single by Kailee Luschar. Reed scored twice more in the bottom of the fifth, and then held the Senators scoreless in the sixth. Luschar went 3-for-3 to lead the CHS offense.

In the finale against Lassen, the Senators fell behind 4-0 before scoring in the bottom of the fourth. The game was stopped on the time limit at that point. Carson managed just two hits, one each by Luschar and Bella Kordonowy, who drove in Carson’s only run.

Carson returns to action today at 9 a.m.

Fernley routs Dayton

DAYTON — The Dust Devils made nine errors, and Fernley took full advantage en route to an easy 15-3 Northern 3A win Friday afternoon.

Julie Rogacs had a two-run single for Dayton and Amanda Woitas hit a solo homer. Elizabeth Vincent, Aleea Howe and Caleigh Onstott all singled.

Dayton hosts Fernley today at 11 for a doubleheader.

BASEBALL

Carson drops thriller

CONCORD, Calif, — Berean Christian tagged Derek Schafer for three second-innings runs, and made them stand up in a 3-2 win over Carson in a non-league game at Ygnacio Valley High School.

The loss dropped Carson to 6-7 overall. Carson faces DeAnza today at 10 a.m. in El Sobrante.

The 3-0 lead held until the fifth when Carson scored twice to make it a one-run game. Bryce Moyle had a run-scoring double and then scored on the back end of a double steal with Jace Keema. Carson, led by Keema’s two singles, finished with five hits on the day. Kahle Good and Jesse Lopez also hit safely.

Dayton tops Fernley

DAYTON — The Dust Devils scored eight runs in their first three at-bats and held off Fernley for a 9-5 win.

The teams meet today for an 11 a.m. doubleheader. The win was Dayton’s third straight.

Dayton scored in the first when Trevor Burrows reached on an error, stole second, moved to third on an infield out. He stayed on third after another error and both runners scored on a double by Justin Schmidt. Nick Hein singled home the third run of the inning, and the fourth scored on a bunt.

Dayton made it 5-0 in the second when Baker doubled home Jesse Schmidt, who had singled and stole second. After Fernley made it 5-2 with two in the top of the third, Dayton countered with two more runs in the bottom of the inning on a run-scoring double by Jesse Schmidt and a bases-loaded walk.

Baker and Jesse Schmidt led the Dust Devils with two hits apiece.
