Community sports: U-18 Pumas Elite win Comstock Shootout

Carson Futbol Club’s U-18 Pumas Elite won the Comstock Shootout U-19 title last weekend at the Pete Livermore Sports Complex.

The locals lost their opener, 1-0, to Spanish Springs, but bounced back with wins over Concord United, 1-0, and South Tahoe 99/00, 5-0, before beating Spanish Springs, 2-0, in the championship game.

Efren Ramirez led the offense with three goals and Guillermo Hernandez added two. Milton Rubio, Angel Gonzalez and Ricardo Gonzalez added a goal apiece.

Raiders post two

flag football wins

The Raiders stayed within striking distance of the undefeated Browns by posting two wins in recent Talents Carson City NFL Flag Football League competition.

The Raiders, who beat the Eagles 25-20 and the Steelers 50-39, are now 5-2-1. The Browns won twice to improve to 8-0, the Eagles split two games and are 3-5, the Steelers went 0-2 to fall to 1-7, the Patriots split two games to go to 3-4-1, and the Seahawks lost twice to fall to 3-5.

Joey Altemerano threw five TD passes, and Michael Gulley and Carlos Concha scored four and three times, respectively, to lead the Raiders. Trevor Marlin threw for seven scores, Anthony Larry scored five times and threw two TD passes, and Alex Myrehn scored three times and threw a TD pass for the league-leading Browns.

Connor Baker led the Patriots with five TDs and Jacob Hanson threw for three scores and scored twice. William Ore had three TD tosses and he scored once. Ryan Galloway led the Eagles with four TD passes and two scores, R.J. Gomez scored five times and Matthew Doan had four scores. Alan Mayoral scored twice and threw a TD pass to lead the Seahawks and Christian Smith led the Steelers with five TD passes and two scores, and Kincaid Gill threw four TD passes and scored twice.

Paul & Masiello win

at Empire Ranch

Nick Paul and John Masiello shot a net 54 to win Flight A at the recent Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club event.

Steve Hinkley and Mike Croswait shot 58 for second place. In Flight B, John Pearson and Joe Morrison won in a tiebreaker over Robey Willis and Duane Carroll. Both teams shot 56. In Flight C, Donnie Curd and Don Wilson shot a 55 to best Bob White and Bill Langs by three shots.

Bruce Serpa, Wade Walker, Tom Welton and Geoff Swann were closest to the hole winners.

Alexander Clinic back

for 25th year at EV

The 25th annual Fred Alexander Memorial Family Golf Clinic is set for May 21 at Eagle Valley Golf Course.

The free golf clinic is for kids from 6 to 17 and their families. Registration starts at 10:30 a.m., and the clinic gets underway at 11:45 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. The clinic is sponsored by the Alexander and Raupp families, Michael Hohl Automotive, Battle Born Harley Davidson, Eagle Valley Golf Course, the E.L. Cord Foundation, the Patricia and David Kepler Foundation, the E.J. Tegner Foundation and the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the NCPGA. Local professionals will be instructing at the clinic.

WNC women qualify

for showcase event

The Western Nevada College women’s soccer club has qualified for the National Showcase Tournament this weekend in Temecula.

The Wildcats are among nine teams in the West Coast Soccer Association in the event at Birdsall Sports Park.

WNC plays UC San Diego at 1 p.m. and then plays Washington State at 6 p.m. WNC reached the tournament with a fourth-place finish in the NorCal Division. WNC tied University of Nevada 2-2 last weekend.

Team members Kiersten Briggs, Maribel Ledezma and Sarah Hernandez will be competing in an all-star game at the tournament.

Eagle Valley women

compete twice

Kim Boykin shot a net 33 to win low gross honors in the first flight at the recent Eagle Valley Women’s Club event on April 26. The format was best nine of 18 on the West course.

Mary Kay Kaluza won low net with a 24.5 followed by Lisa Rasmussen with a 25.5. Donna McKimmey won second flight low gross with a 39. Gail Nelsen won low net with a 20 and Margie Konieczny had a 26.

Robin Ponte won low gross in the Twilight League, playing the back nine at the East course.

Deb Ford was next with a 51 and Lonna Kealoha was third with a 52.

Goodnight, Schellin

tie at Toiyabe event

Larry Goodnight and Mike Schellin scored zero points to tie for the top spot at the Toiyable Golf Club Men’s Day event on April 26.

The format was Chicago Points.

Buz Allen and Max Gundlach tied for third at minus-2, Charlie Cockerill was fifth with minus-2 and Jack Bonar, Riley Beckett and Mike Macey tied for sixth at minus-4.
