A man was charged on Friday with murder for his involvement in a 2-year-old’s death in Carson City.
The Carson City District Attorney’s Office filed an amended criminal complaint against Eric Anthony Buhl, 26, charging open murder; child abuse causing substantial bodily harm; possession of an explosive or incendiary device in or near certain public or private places; and child endangerment, a gross misdemeanor.
On March 17, Carson City Sheriff’s officers and fire/paramedics responded to a medical emergency at the 100 block of Manzanita Terrace, where the caregiver, Buhl, reported he was giving CPR to 2-year-old, Coahuyana Hernandez. Hernandez was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. As a result of the immediate investigation, Buhl was arrested when a search of the residence disclosed explosive devices, which were later disarmed by the Tahoe/Douglas Bomb Squad. Buhl has remained in custody since the March 17 incident.
The amended criminal complaint was filed after the results of the autopsy were completed and the medical examiner had determined the cause of Hernandez’s death was determined to be a homicide. Buhl remains in custody at the Carson City Jail with bail set at $100,000. Buhl is set to appear in Justice Court on Tuesday morning on the amended charges.
