Literacy Volunteers for Children has tutors available to help students in all grades improve their reading skills.

Students in the Carson City area can meet twice a week for one hour with their tutor over summer break from school.

Tutors use Barton’s reading and spelling program, which is geared for all ages.

Literacy Volunteers for Children is a nonprofit with no paid staff. It asks for a $25 registration/materials fee, but scholarships are available for those who are unable to pay.

For information or to register, call Jan Whitemore at 775-885-1010. Training about the Barton program also is offered for anyone interesting in becoming a tutor.
