The next monthly meeting of Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties is taking place at 9 a.m. May 11 at the Silver Springs Community Center.
Guest speakers include Diane Arvizo, director of Homebuyer Services with Nevada Rural Housing Authority, and Heather Simola, real property administrator with Nevada Rural Housing Authority.
Arvizo will describe Home At Last and answer questions about home ownership and home buyer education programs, down payment assistance grants, and the mortgage credit certificate program.
Simola will describe how Richards Crossing, a new 39-unit affordable housing complex in Carson City, was developed and funded. Nevada Rural Housing Authority recently received an award for excellence from the National Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies in recognition of Richards Crossing.
Other topics at the meeting include updates on the coalition’s Health Services Hub and school Dental Days; legislative bills that will affect rural Nevada such as AB 397 on rural health services; the Behavioral Health Task Force in Lyon County; youth leadership, wellness and job skills training programs; the coalition’s food pantries; school and community gardens and hoop houses, arts events in public spaces, and new collaborative grant writing projects to help expand the region’s Healthy Food Hub.
