Carson City Council of United States Navy League to meet May 17

Supporters of the military’s sea services are welcome at the next Carson City Council of the United States Navy League meeting on May 17.

The club meets quarterly for dinner, a short business meeting and presentations by speakers who share about the Coast Guard, Merchant Marines and Navy.

This quarter’s meeting will open with social hour at 5:30 and dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino. The group will hear from Colonel James Donnellan, USMC, commanding officer of Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center (MCMWTC).

Col. Donnellan was commissioned in 1988 and has had many assignments served in various commands throughout his 29-year career. He has completed several deployments to Okinawa and also served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Liberia. Prior to assuming his current post, he was stationed at U.S. Central Command, II Marine Expeditionary Force and Deputy Commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa.

The Carson City Council sponsors recognition programs and provides scholarships for Navy and Marine personnel at Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center near Bridgeport and NAS Fallon, as well as for the Carson High Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Command. It also sponsors the USNS Carson City, EPF-7. The Navy League of the United States was founded in 1902 and is a civilian organization with more than 50,000 members dedicated to educating American citizens and elected officials about the importance of sea power to U.S national security and supporting the men and women of the sea services and their families.
