The Sierra Intermountain Emergency Radio Association’s mobile unit will be on hand at Lampe Park in Gardnerville to demonstrate how amateur radio helps during local emergencies.
Safety Day demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday will showcase how the radio stations in the trailer work in times of local emergencies.
Many of the club’s members also serve the community with CERT and DCART in assisting first responders during floods and other disasters. Other HAMs use their home radio bases to monitor frequencies and report on various problems during local disasters.
SIERA also provides communications assistance for marathons, bicycling events, the and Pony Express Re-Ride.
The club meets every first Saturday at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church on Centerville Road, Gardnerville. All those interested in amateur radio are invited to attend.
