A garden party fundraiser complete with food, music and the chance to win prizes is being held to help a local nonprofit.
Between Horses and Humans is holding its garden party benefit in Genoa at former Wild Rose Inn, 2332 Main St., at 4 p.m. June 4.
The nonprofit is dedicated to developing the future leaders of the Truckee Meadows, Lake Tahoe and the Carson Valley by providing youth a place to learn leadership and life skills through horsemanship.
The organization reports from its 2016 survey that 100 percent of legal custodian’s report their child responded positively to working with horses, and 89 percent of the students involved in the program reported that it was helping them to reach their personal goals.
“It makes me want to work harder and absorb more knowledge,” one student wrote. Other students shared, “It helped me focus on school and on friendship,” and it “helped me to be a leader not a follower.”
The nonprofit operates from Maddi’s Friesian Ranch in Gardnerville and relies on volunteer participation and donations to fund its programs.
All students participate in the program free of charge.
