The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.
SILVER DOLLAR: To Jocelyn Manzano, Adam Lackey, Shaylin Segura, Alek Henricksen, Sawyer Barnett, and Sophia Peterson of the Carson High School Speech and Debate team who have qualified to compete at the national tournament in Birmingham, Ala., June 18-24.
SILVER DOLLAR: To the 26 new officers who graduated from POST Academy and were honored Thursday including Deputies Jeremy Garcia, Daniel Henneberger and Bruce Pendragon and Deputy Derek Short of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and to Short for being named the Outstanding Graduate.
SILVER DOLLAR: To the 37 statewide recruits of the Nevada Division of Forestry who trained last week in Washoe Valley to become wildland firefighters at the Wildland Rookie Academy. They were preparing for what could be a troubling fire season this summer.
SILVER DOLLAR: To all those from Carson City and Douglas County who teamed up to organize and participate in the Relay For Life to fight cancer Saturday at Mills Park.
