The Carson Valley site of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada Torch Club is holding a car wash at the Stratton Center, 1532 U.S. Highway 395 in Gardnerville, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Cars are $5 and trucks are $7 and snacks will also be available for sale. Shade will be provided for people waiting for their cars to be washed.
Melissa Scaramella, program lead for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada’s Carson Valley Clubhouse, said Torch Club is a leadership group and service club for boys and girls ages 10 and up, to help to meet the character development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their lives, giving members a foundation of good character, leadership, accountability, and integrity.
Torch Club members elect officers and work together to implement projects in four focus areas: service to Club and community, education, health and fitness, and social recreation.
“Torch Club members agree upon and implement which projects or programs they wish to engage with,” Scaramella said. “As a group, our Torch Club members chose to raise the money to purchase club T-shirts to identify ourselves while we are doing projects within the community, either helping by volunteering or raising money for those in need.”
Scaramella said while the Carson Valley Torch Club isn’t new, members will be more active and involved in the community with service projects.
“I took over leading our club at the beginning of April and this is my first community project,” she said. “We’re excited to get our first community service programs going and will wear our new shirts with pride.”
