The Nevada Veterans Coalition will conduct its sixth mission at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley by honoring 13 veterans whose remains have been in the care of Walton’s Funeral Homes yet have remained unclaimed.

In order to identify the remains, the NVC relied on Walton’s Funerals Homes for their vast database; National Personnel Records Center for their vast team of researchers; coalition members for their countless volunteer hours of research; and the NVC Honor Guard and various other escorts; and the staff at NNVMC for guiding the coalition. through the proper procedures to get these veterans home where they belong.

The NVC honored 27 individuals in late September whose remains were identified. The next service will be conducted with full military honors for the following 13 veterans on Dec. 8 at 2 p.m.

Brett Palmer, president of the NVC and commander of the honor guard, said the coalition started with one list, and 1,400 names needed identification. He said the research then began with 147 individuals with 27 initially being identified followed by another 16 veterans. Palmer said ideally the NVC would like to inter all 1,400 veterans, but he added the identification process is time consuming.

The NVC is donating their bus and driver to carry the cremains, which will be escorted by members of the coalition.

Government officials and the public are invited to attend.
