Carson City native Sage Donnelly became the senior women’s freestyle kayak national champion at last weekend’s Women’s Freestyle National Championships in Columbus, Ga.
Donnelly, still a junior competitor, took part in the event to get experience for future international competitions.
Two weeks ago, Donnelly competed in the USA Canoe and Kayak Slalom Junior and Senior team trials in North Carolina where she earned spots on both junior teams as well as senior teams. Donnelly is now preparing to represent the United States at multiple World Cup events and the Jr. Canoe and Kayak Slalom World Championships July 17-22 in Italy.
Donnelly’s ultimate goal is to represent the United States in Canoe Slalom and Kayak Slalom at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. It means Donnelly, who takes online classes from Western Nevada College, will be training away from home, and thus is looking for sponsors for the 2018-19 competitive season.
If any local people or businessmen or businesswomen are interested in sponsoring Donnelly, you can go to one of three places on the internet — www.instagram.com/sagekayak, www.facebook.com/Sage Donnelly or twitter.com/sagekayak.
